Interview with Cem Ozden (Fake Society, IT)

Born in Boston, raised in Istanbul, Cem's interest in music first developed when he was a boy and the dj setup his dad bought him as a present when he was 13 started pretty much everything. After organizing many parties in cities mainly like Istanbul and Boston, he ended up moving to Milan and kicked off his new label/agency; Fake Society.

He likes to harmonize groovy, deep-driven, futuristic minimal music with his own personal classics that shaped his musical identity throughout life. He also runs his monthly party, Sound Bakery in Dude Club, Milan since 2 years. The party concentrates on featuring the milestone artists of the Romanian underground music scene in Milan. Despite his young age he has managed to play in cities like London, Paris, Moscow, Bucharest, New York, Miami, etc. to name a few. Resulting in him sharing the booth with names like Cezar, Cristi Cons, Priku, Arapu, Barac, Cap, Sublee, Lizz etc.

Where or how did you come up with your stage name?

I play with my own name at the end. I have tried playing with several different names before but found myself changing them after some years. This way I feel more relaxed since I can’t change my original birth name :)

If you had to describe your sound in 5 words unrelated to music, what would you say?

Energetic, bouncy, soulful, emotional and sexy

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Probably 2pac Shakur.

Are you able to share any of your tricks with me?

Yes it is an easy one. Let every single track in your set mean something to you.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

Moloko- Can Not Contain This

Moan (Radio Slave’s Mix) - Trentemoller

If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be?

I believe music should evolve in time, including the voice of generations and there is no way to stop time. The future always interests me more than the past.

Do you have a favorable equipment?

As I don’t produce yet, my Technics SL 1210 mk5’s.

What is the vibe or style you wish to cultivate?

I don’t know how to describe it since the music I play has a lot of different parts from different genres. I believe anything new that makes people feel emotional and sweat at the same time on the dance floor.

Where was the three performances you cant forget this year?

Electric Pickle in Miami was pretty special. My very good friend, Camelia lives there and it was really fun playing all night with him in his element.

Minimuzikhol is always special as it feels like home and I can invite my closest friends, assures the best time for me :)

Finally, the last party we made as Sound Bakery in Dude Club, Milan. It closed its doors unfortunately and was our home in Milan.
